Ballingry Junior High School first opened it's doors to pupils in 1873 and continued as a secondary School until it closed in 1987 when the new Lochgelly High School opened. The high school was then upgraded/modernised and opened again to serve the community as the new primary school (this new school was needed due to the closure of the two existing schools - Crosshill Primary School and Benarty Primary School).
