Photographs from Ballingry Junior High School (1987) are needed. Class photos were giving to all pupils this year due to the school closing and it would be great for them to be featured on this site. If you can help, please contact me with the details

Welcome to the Discover Benarty Website:

This website is designed to allow internet users to explore the Benarty area of fife. Benarty is an area south of Benarty Hill in Western Fife. It consists of four mining villages - Ballingey, Lochore, Crosshill and Glencraig and currently has a population of 6,393 (Approx). Benarty has changed so much over the years and by using this site, I wish to document as much of those changes as possible. Hopefully, eventually, the benarty area has a website to be proud of. Packed full of photographs (old and new), documents, maps and any other stuff I can get my hands on. Hopefully the site can be enjoyed by both the young and the older generations and can be the subject of many conversations.

Also to the south of Benarty Hill is Lochore Meadows Country Park which has over 1,2000 acres of countryside with a wide range of facilities and activities available. There are woodlands, meadows and grasslands, ponds, a nature reserve and of course the loch itself. (Loch Ore). There are various paths and trails throughout the whole of the area and best of all, entry to the park is free!

Lochore Meadows Facilities include:

Trout Fishery

(Loch Ore is regularly stocked with Brown and Rainbow Trout. Boats supplied with engines are available for hire including a wheely boat for wheelchair users. Anglers can take 5 fish per ticket)

Golf Course
(Nine hole golf course (par 72 for 18 holes) surrounded by amazing scenery. Set entirely within the Country Park, there are brilliant views down the fairways which offer excellent views of the Mary Pit and Benarty Hill)

Outdoor Education Centre

Picnic Areas

BBQs

Beach Area
(Sanded beach area for childen to play and build sandcastles or to paddle during the summer months)

Play Area
(The park has a recently (2010) build play area)

Nature Reserve
(Including a bird watching hide)

Riding Stables

Lochore Meadows Activities include:

Watersports
(Boating, Canoeing and Wind Surfing)

Hillwalking
(There are many trails to follow around the loch and beyond, including Benarty Hill)

Mountain Biking
(Whitewood mountain bike trails)

There a range of specialised equipment available for people with disabilities for the various land and water activities available throughout the park.

How do I get to the Meadows?

From Edinburgh take M90, exiting at Junction 2A for the A92. Take the Lochgelly turn off. Lochore Meadows is signposted from there. Turn off the B920 at Crosshill.
